Compact 4K/HD POV system camera
The HDC-P50 is a lightweight and compact Point of View (POV) system camera. Integrating seamlessly with existing HD infrastructure, lenses and accessories, it offers ambitious directors exciting new possibilities for creating HD, 4K and HDR productions.
This lightweight and compact POV system camera is equipped with the world's first 2/3-inch 4K three-CMOS sensor system with global shutter that delivers exceptional image quality with impressive sensitivity and wide dynamic range.
Using ultra-high-precision alignment technology, three 4K sensors on the newly developed prism achieve the expanded colour space of the ITU-R BT.2020 broadcast standard. As a result, the HDC-P50 delivers exceptionally high-quality images in demanding 4K/HDR live production environments.
The camera can directly deliver remarkably sharp and clear 4K HDR images straight from the camera head without the need for a separate processing unit. Used alone or as part of a multi-camera shoot, the HDC-P50 can be crane-mounted or used as a fixed camera position. It is also ideal for a wide range of other shooting situations – such as in combination with a camera stabiliser, in handheld mode, during wireless shooting or when filming aerial sequences from a helicopter.
Features
Next-generation imaging
The HDC-P50 is equipped with the world's first 2/3-inch 4K CMOS sensor with global shutter technology that eliminates "jelly effect" and banding noise. This next-generation sensor captures exceptionally pure 4K images with extremely low noise, impressive sensitivity and wide dynamic range, while achieving the expanded colour space of the ITU-R BT.2020 broadcast standard. It is paired with a newly developed digital signal processor that fully exploits the extraordinary imaging power of this new sensor.
Lightweight, compact, quiet and energy efficient
The HDC-P50 incorporates impressive imaging performance into a lightweight and compact camera body, ideal for use in space-constrained situations such as crane jibs, helicopter camera mounts or as a fixed camera position. Low power consumption is complemented by minimal operating noise levels.
Wide colour space and dynamic range
The HDC-P50's advanced optical system supports the ITU-R BT.2020 colour gamut, enabling exceptionally wide and accurate colour reproduction in live broadcasts. From sports to concerts and special events, you'll see the difference with vibrant, true-to-life images that give viewers the feeling of really being there. HDR operation is available for simultaneous 4K and HD live operation via the S-Log3 process.
Dual servo-controlled optical filters
Two optical filter wheels for neutral density (ND) and colour correction (CC) open up even wider creative possibilities in changing lighting conditions. Both filters can be controlled from a remote control panel or master setup unit.
Seamless integration into Sony HD workflows
The HDC-P50 joins Sony's acclaimed family of HDC series live production solutions. It benefits from direct compatibility with a wide range of accessories, remote control panels and camera control units. The camera is also designed to integrate with third-party control systems.
Smooth migration from HD to 4K
The HDC-P50 integrates seamlessly into Sony's 4K live production environment. With an optional software upgrade, the camera enables 4K capture for multiple 4K and HD outputs.
