Camera grip

The grip is the interface that will be in contact with the camera operator's hand. During its development, particular attention was paid to its ergonomics so that the end user can fully concentrate on their main task: filming! The buttons The grip consists of 4 pressure sensors whose action evolves according to the pressure applied. For example, the zoom will accelerate when pressure is applied, but will slow down if the pressure applied is less. This technology requires some adaptation and intuitive handling. The joystick In addition to the four buttons, the joystick extends the range of possibilities with a combination system designed by Caman. The joystick also works by detecting the pressure applied on the axis, upwards or downwards. Unlike video game joysticks, this one doesn't actually move. Ergonomics For optimal user experience, Camille Cottagnoud has developed a revolutionary patented system. The 4 buttons are mounted on a grip adjustable to the size of the user's hand and according to shooting conditions (e.g. gloves, mittens). Thanks to a worm gear system, adjustments are easily achievable, even in the heat of action. The module The module, a small control box, is the nerve centre of the Caman system. When using the device, it fulfils the role of communicator between the grip and the camera. It can be customised using an application compatible with Mac and PC, which allows you to define the camera functions to be recorded with the grip according to your needs and desires. The mount The mount is the camera support supplied with the grip. It is fixed to the side of the Caman and, thanks to a system of nylon discs, can be easily adjusted without having to unscrew the ARRI rosettes. Operation and compatibility The Caman grip uses the LANC protocol to communicate with the camera. It is therefore compatible with all SONY, Canon, Z-Cam or BlackMagic cameras, amongst others, with a mini-jack input for remote control. The current version of the Caman module is not compatible with Panasonic cameras which do not use the LANC protocol. Production The module and wrist strap were designed in Switzerland and the production of the various parts making up the grip is carried out in Switzerland. Most of the elements are 3D printed, as is the mould for silicone injection. This innovative process allows custom parts to be created with great precision without wasting raw materials. It also allows total control over the manufacturing process of the Caman grip. With manually assembled components, each piece passes through the expert hands of our craftsmen, guaranteeing impeccable quality. Our production technique makes the grip dust and water resistant.
