The Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS is the ideal lens for portrait enthusiasts and other images with a shallow depth of field, without resorting to heavy photographic equipment.
This manual focus lens was developed specifically for mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors, and therefore features a compact design and lightweight construction that make it practical to use with small, sleek camera models.
Smooth focus
The Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS is fitted with a wide, ergonomic focus ring that provides a very smooth and precise movement. The minimum focusing distance is 65 cm, which means the lens, in addition to portrait photography, also works very well for capturing detail shots and food images. Thanks to a floating lens structure, it also maintains its high sharpness throughout the entire focus range.
The optical construction consists of 9 lenses arranged in 7 groups. In order to provide optimal sharpness and resolution even at full aperture, and to minimise image errors such as chromatic aberration (colour fringing), an HR (High Refractive) lens and an ED lens are included.
Samyang's advanced anti-reflective multi-layer coating (UMC, Ultra Multi Coating) combats reflections and glare. As a result, images achieve good contrast and natural colour reproduction in all lighting conditions. A bladed aperture also contributes to a very soft and creamy bokeh (rendering of blurred subjects). Something every portrait photographer appreciates!
