Combining advanced optics with sophisticated handling, the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 Mk2 Canon EF lens is an ultra wide-angle lens particularly well suited to astrophotography, architectural photography and landscape applications. Featuring a 14-element in 10-group optical design, this lens uses a series of aspherical, low-dispersion and high-refractive-index elements to reduce chromatic fringing, aberrations and distortion, producing sharp and clear images with accurate colours. An Ultra Multi-Coating is also present, along with an integrated petal-shaped lens hood, to suppress flare and ghosting whilst improving contrast when shooting in direct, bright light. Complementing the imaging strengths, manual focus with an internal focus design is employed and allows working with subjects as close as 28 cm, and the metal housing is weather-sealed to allow working in challenging weather conditions. Additionally, a focus lock ring allows the focus position to be secured to prevent accidental changes, and the aperture ring can also be de-clicked to better suit video applications.
Features
- The ultra wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame Canon EF cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an equivalent focal length of 22.4 mm.
- The complex 14-element in 10-group optical design includes one aspherical element, one hybrid aspherical element, two extra-low dispersion elements and three high-refractive-index elements, which combine to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as colour fringing, whilst improving sharpness, clarity and colour fidelity.
- An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to the individual elements to minimise ghosting and flare, increasing contrast and colour neutrality when shooting in bright lighting conditions.
- The manual focus design allows working with subjects as close as 28 cm and an internal focus design maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
- The integrated petal-shaped lens hood prevents stray light from reaching the front element and also offers physical protection against minor impacts.
- The weather-sealed design is suited to working in challenging weather conditions.
- The focus lock ring allows the focus position to be secured to prevent accidental changes, which is beneficial for astrophotography and other forms of long-exposure, time-lapse or long-term stationary shooting.
- The aperture ring de-click function allows the aperture ring to not stop at each aperture value as cinema lenses do. This selectable function will allow smooth and continuous brightness adjustment with far more detail between aperture values.
