Combining advanced optics with sophisticated handling, the Samyang MF 14mm f/2.8 WS Mk2 for Nikon F mount is an ultra wide-angle lens particularly well suited to astrophotography, architecture and landscape applications. Featuring a 14-element in 10-group optical design, this lens employs a series of aspherical, low-dispersion and high-refractive-index elements to reduce chromatic fringing, aberrations and distortion in order to achieve sharp, clear and colour-accurate images. An Ultra Multi-Coating is also present, along with a built-in petal-shaped hood, to suppress flare and improve contrast when shooting in bright, direct lighting conditions. Complementing its imaging strengths, manual focus, with an internal focusing design, is used and allows working with subjects as close as 28 cm, and the metal body is weather-sealed to allow working in challenging weather conditions. In addition, a focus lock ring allows the focus position to be secured to prevent accidental changes, and the aperture ring can also be de-clicked for better adaptation to video applications.
Features
- The ultra wide-angle lens is designed for Nikon F-mount cameras in FX format, but can also be used with DX models where it offers an equivalent focal length of 21 mm.
- The complex 14-element in 10-group optical design includes one aspherical element, one hybrid aspherical element, two extra-low dispersion elements and three high-refractive-index elements, which combine to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as chromatic fringing, and improve sharpness, clarity and colour fidelity.
- An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimise ghosting and flare in order to increase contrast and colour neutrality when shooting in bright lighting conditions.
- The manual focus design allows working with subjects as close as 28 cm and an internal focusing design maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
- The built-in petal-shaped hood prevents stray light from reaching the front element and also offers physical protection against minor impacts.
- The weather-resistant design is suited to working in challenging weather conditions.
- The focus lock ring allows you to secure the focus position to prevent accidental changes, which is advantageous for astrophotography and other forms of stationary, time-lapse or extended long-exposure shooting.
- The aperture ring de-click function allows the ring to move smoothly without stopping at each aperture setting as cinema lenses do. This selectable function enables continuous and smooth brightness adjustment with much finer control between aperture settings.
- The Nikon F mount version of this lens incorporates electronic contacts that enable Exif data transfer between the lens and the camera to allow working with certain automatic exposure modes as well as focus confirmation functions.
