Combining advanced optics with sophisticated handling, the Samyang 14 mm f/2.8 Mk2 lens for Sony E mount is an ultra wide-angle lens particularly suited to astrophotography, architecture and landscapes. With an optical construction of 14 elements in 10 groups, this lens uses a series of aspherical, low-dispersion and high-refractive-index elements to reduce chromatic aberrations, aberrations and distortion, delivering sharp, clear and colour-accurate images. The Ultra Multi-Coating treatment is also present, along with a built-in petal-shaped lens hood to suppress flare and ghosting, improving contrast when shooting in direct and intense lighting conditions. Complementing its optical strengths, manual focus, with an internal focus system, allows working with subjects at distances down to 28 cm, and the metal body is weather-sealed to allow use in adverse weather conditions. In addition, a focus lock ring allows you to secure the focus position to prevent accidental changes, and the aperture ring can also be de-clicked for better adaptation to video applications.
Features
- The wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras with Sony E mount, but can also be used with APS-C models where it offers an equivalent focal length of 21 mm.
- The complex optical construction of 14 elements in 10 groups includes one aspherical element, one hybrid aspherical element, two extra-low dispersion elements and three high-refractive-index elements, which combine to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as colour fringing, while improving sharpness, clarity and colour fidelity.
- Ultra Multi-Coating treatment has been applied to individual elements to minimise ghosting and flare, increasing contrast and colour neutrality when used in intense lighting conditions.
- The manual focus design allows working with subjects at distances down to 28 cm and an internal focus system maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
- The built-in petal-shaped lens hood blocks stray light and also provides physical protection against minor impacts.
- The weather-sealed design is suitable for working in adverse weather conditions.
- The focus lock ring allows you to secure the focus position to prevent accidental changes, which is beneficial for astrophotography and other forms of stationary long-exposure or time-lapse shooting.
- The aperture ring de-click function allows you to not stop at each aperture value as cinema lenses do. This selectable function will allow smooth and continuous adjustment of brightness with far more detail between values.
