A short telephoto prime lens well suited for portraiture and other selective compositions, the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Mk2 for Nikon F mount is characterised by its bright maximum aperture of f/1.4 for working in low-light conditions and controlling depth of field. The optical design incorporates a hybrid aspherical element that helps reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to reduce flare and ghosting in order to improve contrast and colour fidelity. Manual focus allows working with subjects as close as 1.1 m, and a nine-blade rounded aperture contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Features
- The portrait prime lens is designed for full-frame Nikon F cameras, but can also be used with DX models where it provides an equivalent focal length of 127.5 mm.
- The bright maximum aperture of f/1.4 offers a high degree of control over depth of field for working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques. Additionally, it also allows working in low-light conditions with faster shutter speeds.
- A hybrid aspherical element is included in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity and sharpness across the full aperture range.
- An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimise ghosting and flare, thereby increasing contrast and colour neutrality when shooting in bright lighting conditions.
- Manual focus allows working with subjects as close as 1.1 m, and an internal focus design maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
- The aperture ring de-click function allows the aperture ring to move smoothly without stopping at each aperture value as cinema lenses do. This selectable feature will enable continuous and smooth brightness adjustment with far more detail between aperture values.
- The nine-blade rounded aperture contributes to a soft and pleasing bokeh quality.
- The weather-resistant construction is suited to working in difficult weather conditions.
- The Nikon F mount version of this lens incorporates electronic contacts that allow Exif data transfer between the lens and camera to enable the use of certain automatic exposure modes as well as focus confirmation functions.
