Combining an extremely versatile focal length with a large maximum aperture, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens for Leica L mount is a wide-angle lens characterised by its advanced optical design. The combination of one FLD (F Low Dispersion) element and four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements significantly reduces chromatic aberrations, while a pair of aspherical elements, one of which is positioned at the rear of the lens, minimises various distortions and additional aberrations. A Super Multi-Layer coating has also been applied to the lens elements to reduce flare and ghosting, thus providing improved contrast and colour fidelity. Furthermore, the maximum aperture of f/1.4 is advantageous for working in low-light conditions and offers greater depth-of-field control for isolating the subject.
Complementing the imaging capabilities, the lens is equipped with a Hyper Sonic Motor to produce fast, smooth and quiet autofocus with manual correction at any time. The physical design uses a thermally stable composite material for durability across a wide range of environments, and a brass bayonet mount also provides rigidity and mounting precision.
Features
- Part of Sigma's Art range within the Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly exceptional optical performance and is ideally suited to creative and artistic applications.
- The standard wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras with Leica L mount, but can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide an equivalent focal length of 52.5 mm.
- The large maximum aperture of f/1.4 is well suited to working in low-light conditions and also offers improved control of the focus position when using shallow depth-of-field techniques.
- One FLD element and four SLD elements are present in the optical design and help reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved colour clarity and accuracy.
- Two aspherical elements reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for increased sharpness and accurate rendering.
- A Super Multi-Layer coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise flare and ghosting and help produce high-contrast images with neutral colour, even in backlit conditions.
- The nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
- The built-in HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) enables fast and quiet autofocus, which is further enhanced by an optimised AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing. The HSM also allows permanent manual focus control simply by turning the focus ring at any time.
- The lens is constructed using a thermally stable composite material (TSC), as well as traditional metals, for greater precision and use across wide temperature variations.
- The bayonet mount is constructed in brass to ensure precision and durability. In addition, a rubber gasket is incorporated into the mount design to make it dust- and splash-resistant.
