A particularly elegant prime lens for portraits, the 56mm f/1.4 DC DN is part of Sigma's Contemporary series and is designed for use with APS-C format L-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens is characterised by its fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, perfectly suited to working in challenging lighting conditions and also offering better depth of field control to isolate subjects and work with selective focus techniques. The optical design uses two aspherical elements and one SLD element, which help reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and clarity. A Super Multi-Layer coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for better contrast and colour accuracy when shooting in bright lighting conditions. Complementing the optics, a stepping AF motor is suited to both photo and video applications thanks to its fast, precise and virtually silent performance.
Features
- As a member of Sigma's Contemporary Global Vision range, this lens is designed to strike a balance between practicality and performance, combining compact and lightweight construction with versatile handling and exceptional optical attributes.
- The portrait-type prime lens is designed for APS-C format L-mount mirrorless cameras and offers an equivalent focal length of 84 mm.
- The fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 excels in low-light conditions and also allows better depth of field control for selective focus effects.
- A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element reduces colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and colour accuracy.
- Two aspherical elements are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to superior overall sharpness and precise rendering.
- A Super Multi-Layer coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise flare and ghosting and help produce images with rich contrast and neutral colours, even when shooting into the light.
- A stepping AF motor benefits photographers and videographers with its fast, precise and virtually silent performance.
- Nine rounded aperture blades contribute to a smooth and pleasing bokeh effect.
- The bayonet mount is constructed in brass to ensure precision and durability. In addition, a rubber gasket is incorporated into the mount design to make it dust and splash resistant.
