Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine (Metres)
The Venus Optics Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine (Canon EF, Metres) lens is suitable for large format and Super35 cameras.
The image circle allows directors of photography to use it not only on full frame sensors (size = 43.14mm), but also to fully cover Vista Vision sensors on the RED Monstro and the Arri Alexa LF sensor (open-gate size = 44.7mm). The lens is also ideal for Super35 camera owners with an ultra-wide field of view equivalent to 17mm and offers scalability when directors of photography need to switch to large format cameras.
Super compact and lightweight
This 12mm lens is extremely compact and lightweight despite its extreme specifications. It measures 3.4" (87mm) in length and weighs less than 1.5 lb (675g). It can be easily mounted on any type of stabilisation system, including handheld stabilisers.
Near-zero distortion
Optical distortion in ultra wide-angle lenses will never be a nightmare for directors of photography. The distortion rate of good wide-angle lenses on the market ranges from 2 to 4%. Venus Optics, however, is able to compress distortion to near-zero levels. In fact, the "Zero-D" claim has been validated by many Laowa lens owners worldwide.
Extremely close focusing distance
The lens can focus at an extremely close distance. It can focus anywhere between 7" from the sensor (<4" from the front element) and infinity. No additional lens is required in this case. Wide-angle lenses generally create a "flat" image with a very large depth of field, but with this close-focus capability and fast aperture, the Laowa 12mm is able to create a unique rendering combining wide-angle and shallow depth of field with a pleasing bokeh.
Robust and professional cinema housing
Designed with industry-standard 0.8 module gears on the aperture and focus rings for easy installation of follow focus systems. A smooth and extended 270° focus rotation is designed for precise focusing. The entire lens housing is made from aluminium alloy.
A 114mm adapter is included in the package to enlarge the front diameter to fit industry-size matte boxes. Venus Optics has tested several matte boxes on the market and there is still no vignetting on the VV sensor with the matte box installed.
Robust and professional cinema housing
The lens is available in three different variants: PL, EF and E mounts (non-interchangeable). Shims of different thicknesses are also included to allow users to calibrate the flange distance.
The included Pelican hard case, waterproof and shockproof, protects the lenses from damage during transport.
