Laowa 12 mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine (metres)
The Laowa 12 mm t/2.9 Zero-D Cine for Arri PL (metres) is suitable for large-format and Super35 cameras.
The image circle allows directors of photography to use it not only on full-frame sensors (size = 43.14 mm), but also to completely fill the Vista Vision sensors on the RED Monstro and the sensor on the Arri Alexa LF (Open-gate size = 44.7 mm). The lens is also ideal for Super35 camera owners with its ultra-wide field of view equivalent to 17 mm, and is a future-proof choice when directors of photography need to move to large-format cameras.
Super compact and lightweight
This 12 mm lens is extremely compact and lightweight despite its extreme specifications. It measures 3.4" (87 mm) in length and weighs less than 1.5 lb (675 g). It can be easily mounted on any type of stabilisation system, including handheld stabilisers.
Near-zero distortion
Optical distortion in ultra wide-angle lenses will never be a nightmare for directors of photography. The distortion rate of good wide-angle lenses on the market ranges from 2 to 4%. Venus Optics, however, is able to compress distortion to a near-zero level. In fact, the "Zero-D" designation has been validated by many existing Laowa lens owners around the world.
Extremely short minimum focusing distance
The lens is capable of focusing at an extremely short distance. It can focus anywhere from 7" from the sensor (<4" from the front element) to infinity. No dioptre is required in this case. Wide-angle lenses generally create a "flat" image with a very large depth of field, but with this close-focusing capability and large aperture, the Laowa 12 mm is able to create a unique wide-angle rendering with shallow depth of field and pleasing bokeh.
Robust and professional cinema housing
Designed with standard 0.8 module gears on the aperture and focus rings for easy installation of follow focus systems. An extended smooth focus travel of 270° is designed for precise focusing. The entire lens housing is made from aluminium alloy.
A 114 mm adapter ring is included in the packaging to expand the front diameter to fit industry-standard-size lens hoods. Venus Optics has tested several lens hoods on the market and there is still no vignetting on the VV sensor with the lens hood installed.
Robust and professional cinema housing
The lens is available in three different variants: PL, EF and E mount (non-interchangeable). Different shims are also included to allow users to perform back focus calibration.
The included Pelican hard case, waterproof and shockproof, protects the lenses from damage during transport.
