Laowa 15mm f/2 Zero-D Lens
The Laowa 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D lens for Nikon Z mount from Venus Optics is a bright, fast wide-angle lens with a sophisticated rectilinear optical design that effectively limits distortion. The bright maximum aperture of f/2 makes this lens particularly useful for astrophotography and low-light use, and combined with the minimum focusing distance of 5.9", it also allows images to be produced with a distinctly reduced depth of field. The optical construction incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations, offering increased sharpness and clarity as well as a reduction in colour fringing. A Frog Eye coating has also been applied to repel dust and moisture from the front element of the lens, which is beneficial when working in challenging environmental conditions. Additionally, the manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth and silent aperture changes suited to video applications, and the front of the lens is threaded to accept 72 mm screw-in filters.
Features
- Ultra wide-angle lens designed for Nikon Z FX-format mirrorless cameras.
- The relatively fast maximum aperture of f/2 is advantageous for astrophotography and low-light shooting applications.
- The rectilinear design renders subjects with minimal distortion, making it suitable for landscape and architecture applications.
- Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for increased clarity and colour neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also present to limit spherical aberrations and improve sharpness.
- The Frog Eye coating has been applied to repel dust and moisture, providing additional protection when working in challenging weather conditions.
- The manual focus design allows working with subjects at a distance as close as 5.9" with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.
- The manual aperture ring can be mechanically "de-clicked" for smooth and silent rotation across the entire aperture range, making it ideal for video applications.
- Five straight aperture blades are used to produce sharp 10-pointed star effects when photographing point light sources at smaller apertures.
- Despite its ultra wide-angle design, this lens can accept 72 mm screw-in filters at the front of the lens.
