Described as "strange but wonderful", the Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens for Pentax K mount is a truly unique lens designed for close-up shooting. Characterised by its long, slim body, this macro lens offers a maximum magnification of 2:1 with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5' and a minimum working distance of 0.8". Even with such a short working distance, the lens measures 1.3' in length, placing you at a comfortable shooting distance from close subjects. Furthermore, as a wide-angle lens, it offers greater depth of field compared to traditional telephoto macro lenses, allowing more background detail with less subject isolation.
The optical design incorporates ultra-low dispersion and high refractive index elements, which help to suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations for a high degree of clarity, colour accuracy, and sharpness. Manual focus control allows focusing from 1.5' to infinity, and the front of the lens features integrated circular LED lighting to assist with close-up focusing. The slim 0.2" diameter at the front of the lens body also offers better opportunities for front lighting of subjects. Additionally, the front portion of the lens is waterproof, allowing you to work with subjects just below the water's surface or in other dusty or challenging environments.
