Overview of the Sigma 321955
Sigma aimed to create a high-end portrait prime lens with the 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, and they have delivered an optic with high performance, a large f/1.4 aperture, and a variety of technologies. Available here with a Nikon F mount, this lens offers an ultra-fast f/1.4 aperture that is ideal for capturing images with exceptionally shallow depth of field and soft bokeh. It also uses two SLD elements, one element with abnormal partial dispersion/high refractive index, and one aspherical element that minimise aberrations and ensure a sharp and clear image. A Super Multi-Layer coating helps to suppress reflections and ghosting.
For operation, a Hyper Sonic AF Motor offers fast and precise focusing, and a large focus ring allows for manual override to make fine adjustments. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm also helps to create soft, round bokeh. It is made from a thermally stable composite material that is light and durable and it has a brass bayonet mount. Additionally, it is fully compatible with Sigma's USB dock.
As part of the Art line in Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly remarkable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
This short telephoto 85mm f/1.4 prime lens is designed for Nikon F full-frame format cameras, and can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide an equivalent focal length of 127.5mm.
The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Two SLD elements, one element with a high rate of abnormal partial dispersion and high refractive index, and one aspherical element have been incorporated into the lens design to correct chromatic aberrations throughout the focusing range and help ensure sharpness, clarity and high image contrast, regardless of the focus point or aperture setting. This optical design also helps to control distortion and limit vignetting.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise reflections and ghosting and contribute to producing images rich in contrast and neutral in colour, even in backlit conditions.
The built-in HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) achieves quick and silent autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimised AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also allows for full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring.
The specialised electromagnetic aperture mechanism offers greater exposure control stability, particularly beneficial when using fast continuous shooting speeds.
A nine-blade rounded diaphragm helps to produce an attractive quality of background blur.
The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensuring accuracy and durability.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.
