This Samyang 8mm T3.8 UMC Fish-Eye CS II lens with Canon EF mount is a cine fisheye lens designed for video capture on APS-C sensor cameras. It has a focal length of 8mm and an ultra-wide field of view of 180°. However, this field of view is reduced to 167° on Canon cameras because Canon APS-C sensors are slightly smaller and have a crop factor of 1.6x.

Fisheye lenses are not intended for everyday use, but can be excellent for capturing sports stadiums, large halls, very dense urban views and similar scenes in a distorted and unconventional way. They are also useful for making small rooms appear larger and straight lines or bars appear more oval, in both cases due to image distortion.

The aperture ranges from T3.8 to T22. With T3.8 as the maximum aperture, this lens is best suited to sufficiently bright environments or with an integrated light source. The aperture is manually adjustable without clicks via a smooth, continuous aperture ring. Both the aperture ring and the focus ring feature a 0.8 gear pitch in case you wish to use a follow focus system with either one. The focus ring is also well damped and very smooth. The lens does not offer autofocus, but with fisheye lenses, objects generally appear sharp anyway. The minimum focus distance is 30cm (11.8").

The lens comprises 10 optical elements arranged in 7 groups. It features Samyang's Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) anti-reflective coating, which eliminates stray reflections and ghosting. The lens body is made of aluminium and is very robust. A removable petal-type lens hood and front and rear lens caps are included with the lens.
