The Samyang 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS VDSLR lens is a fast-aperture manual ultra-wide-angle lens designed for cameras and camcorders with CS / APS-C / DX and MFT sensors. Mounts available for Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony A, Sony E, Canon M (EF-EOS M), Fuji / Fujifilm X and Olympus / Panasonic Micro Four Thirds (MFT / M43) mounts
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version has been developed primarily for professional film production. The VDSLR version features a focus tracking system and decoupled aperture, allowing the user to smoothly and quietly adjust focus and aperture / depth of field during filming, and to connect to professional focus tracking systems.
The Samyang is rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops, which is customary for cinema camera lenses. The F-stop number expresses the lens speed assuming the lens transmits 100% of incident light. The T number expresses actual light transmission, which is more accurate, and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS version
The Samyang 16mm is a rectilinear lens, offering superior image quality and low distortion. It is perfectly suited to APS-C sensor cameras for landscape photography and general photography requiring a high-quality wide-angle lens. The wide f2 aperture enables low-light photography.
The optical construction comprises 13 elements in 11 groups, with 2 aspherical lenses, 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) element and a hybrid aspherical lens, and incorporates Samyang's Ultra UMC multi-layer coating which ensures excellent light transmission and minimises flare and ghosting. The elements are housed in a solid body weighing approximately 570g, depending on the mount.
Suitable for professional and amateur photographers, the 16mm is equivalent to 24mm on APS-C sensors, 25.6mm on Canon EOS (1.6x crop factor), and 32mm on Olympus and Panasonic MFT cameras.
The new Samyang 16mm accepts 77mm filters for attaching ND filters, polarising filters or any filter with a 77mm thread, and has a detachable petal lens hood.
The Samyang 16mm features a wide ribbed manual focus ring that is smooth and well-damped. This allows precise manual focusing, particularly suited to professional DSLR video where manual focus is preferred, enabling focus pulling during video recording.
The lens is supplied with front and rear caps, a petal-shaped lens hood and a soft case.
Available mounts: Canon EF Canon M (EF-EOS M), Nikon F, Sony A, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Pentax K, and Olympus / Panasonic Micro Four Thirds (MFT / M43) versions
