The Samyang 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS VDSLR lens is a bright wide-angle manual lens designed for cameras and camcorders equipped with CS / APS-C / DX and MFT cropped sensors. This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for the professional needs of cinema / filmmaking. The VDSLR version is equipped with a follow focus rack and a declicked aperture, which allow the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture / depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.

The Samyang is rated in T-stops rather than f-stops, which is common for cinema camera lenses. The f-stop number expresses the speed of the lens assuming it transmits 100% of the incident light. The T number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.

The Samyang 16mm is a rectilinear lens, offering superb image quality and low distortion. It is perfectly suited to cropped sensor cameras for landscape photography and general photography requiring a high-quality wide-angle lens. The large f2 aperture enables low-light photography.

The optical construction comprises 13 elements in 11 groups, with 2 aspherical lenses, 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) element and a hybrid aspherical element, and benefits from Samyang's Ultra Multi UMC coating which ensures superb light transmission and minimises flare and ghosting. The elements are housed in a solid body weighing approximately 570 g, depending on the mount.

Suitable for professional and amateur photographers, the 16mm is equivalent to a 24mm on APS-C format sensors, 25.6mm on Canon EOS (1.6x crop factor), and 32mm on cameras equipped with the Olympus and Panasonic MFT sensor system.

The new Samyang 16mm accepts 77mm filters for attaching NDs, polarisers or any filter with a 77mm thread, and features a removable petal lens hood.

The Samyang 16mm is equipped with a wide, ridged manual focus ring that is smooth and well-damped. This allows precise manual focusing, particularly suited to more professional video / DSLR shooting where manual focus is preferred, enabling focus pulling during video recording.

The lens comes with front and rear lens caps, a petal-shaped lens hood and a soft lens case.
