The Samyang 24mm T1.5 ED AS UMC VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for professional filmmaking where fast, high-quality lenses are essential. The VDSLR version incorporates a geared focus system and a de-clicked aperture, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.

The aperture and focus scale has also been moved to the side of the lens to improve visibility

The 24mm VDSLR version is compatible with full-frame or APS-C sensors and is available in Canon, Nikon, Sony A, Sony E, Pentax K and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts. It is ideal for full-frame cameras, offering a high-quality wide-angle lens perfect for street, landscape and architectural photography, even in low-light conditions. Photographers using Canon DX / APS-C sensors will get a field of view of approximately 38mm (35mm equivalent) suited to photojournalism and general photography.

Cinema lenses are rated by a T-number instead of an F-aperture. The F-aperture expresses the speed of the lens assuming that the lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T-number expresses the actual light transmission.

The Samyang 24mm VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC version.

Sharpness is excellent, even at the edges of the image at wide apertures, and the fast T1.5 aperture allows a shallow depth of field to separate subjects from the background, and to use faster shutter speeds in low-light conditions.

The Samyang 24mm T1.5 VDSLR is a manual focus lens. The focus ring includes geared rings compatible with professional follow focus systems available in the film industry, as well as a geared and de-clicked aperture ring. These modifications allow precise and smooth control of focus and aperture during video recording. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.

For filmmaking and video applications, manual focus is the preferred choice, allowing focus changes during shooting, and more and more users are using DSLRs for shooting and high-definition (HD) video.

The Samyang 24mm VDSLR lens offers superb bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), thanks to its design and fast aperture.

The optical construction of the Samyang 24mm lens comprises 13 elements arranged in 12 groups, 4 elements are made from extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, plus two aspherical elements. The 24mm benefits from an Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) treatment for the best possible light transmission, and resistance to ghosting and flare.
