The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR is a bright wide-angle prime lens with manual focus for full-frame cameras, or a bright standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available in Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts.
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was primarily developed for professional filmmaking. The VDSLR version is equipped with a geared focus system and a de-clicked aperture ring, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow-focus systems.
The Samyang is calibrated in T-stops rather than F-stops, which is standard for cinema camera lenses. The F-stop number expresses the speed of the lens assuming it transmits 100% of the incident light. The T-stop number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.
Producing superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, equalling or surpassing lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm is truly a professional-class lens at an affordable price.
Suited to full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications; the lens is a perfect bright/fast wide-angle for landscape, reportage and general photography, including low-light photography. Mounted on an APS-C sensor camera, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography including low-light photography.
At wide apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens offers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas) which is perfect for portrait-type applications, or photography where ultra-blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in both photography and video. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh delivered by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although bokeh character is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm lens among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which helps reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering full frame. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps reduce lateral chromatic aberration, while the UMC multi-layer coatings offer high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating elements to maintain high image quality at minimum focus distance.
The focus ring features geared rings compatible with professional follow-focus systems available in the film industry, as does the de-clicked geared aperture ring (clickless). These modifications allow precise and smooth control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.
Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for both photography and video. There is a growing number of users using DSLRs for filming and creating high-definition (HD) videos, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pull) and aperture during shooting.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC has been designed with great attention to detail in both optics and build quality, placing the lens among the finest photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear caps, petal-type lens hood (reversible for storage) and a soft pouch. Filter size 77mm
