The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a bright wide-angle fixed focal length lens with manual focus for full-frame cameras, or a bright standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available for Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts.

This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for professional filmmaking and video production. The VDSLR version includes a geared ring for follow focus and a de-clicked aperture ring, which allow the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.

The Samyang is measured in T-values (T-Stops) rather than F-values (F-stops), which is standard for cinema camera lenses. The F-number expresses the speed of the lens assuming that the lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T-number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more precise and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.

The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.

Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the softness of the bokeh provided by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens includes twelve elements arranged in ten groups and incorporates two high refractive index elements, which help to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering the full-frame format. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps to reduce lateral chromatic aberration; the UMC multi-layer coatings offer high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating lens elements to maintain high image quality at minimum focusing distance.

The focus ring features geared rings compatible with the professional geared follow focus systems available in the film industry, as well as a geared and de-clicked (clickless) aperture ring. These modifications allow precise and smooth control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different intensities of light sources, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.

Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for still photography as well as for video purposes. There is a growing number of users using digital SLR cameras for high definition (HD) shooting and video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pull) and aperture during shooting.
