The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a bright wide-angle manual focus lens for full-frame cameras, or a bright standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available in Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts

This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for the professional needs of cinema and filmmaking. The VDSLR version features a geared focus ring and a de-clicked aperture ring, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.

The Samyang is calibrated in T-values rather than F-values, which is the standard for cinema camera lenses. The F number expresses the speed of the lens assuming it transmits 100% of the incident light. The T number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.

The VDSLR version of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.

Delivering superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, equalling or surpassing lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm is truly a professional-class lens at an affordable price.

Suitable for full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications; the lens is a perfect fast/bright wide-angle lens for landscape, journalism and general photography, including low-light photography. Mounted on a camera with an APS-C sensor, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography.

At wide apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens offers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), which is perfect for portrait-type applications, or photography where ultra-smooth and blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in photography and cinema. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh provided by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although bokeh character is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of bokeh character.

The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high-refractive-index elements, which help to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering full frame. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps reduce lateral chromatic aberration, while UMC multi-layer coatings provide high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating lens elements to preserve high image quality at the minimum focusing distance.

The focus ring features geared rings compatible with the professional gear-driven follow focus systems available in the film industry, and likewise a geared and de-clicked (clickless) aperture ring. These modifications allow smooth and precise control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.

Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for still photography as well as video. There is a growing number of users employing DSLRs for shooting and high-definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (rack focus) and aperture during shooting.

The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC has been designed with great attention to the finest details, both in optics and manufacture, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.

Supplied with front and rear lens caps, a petal-shaped lens hood (which is reversible for transport) and a soft lens pouch. Filter size 77mm
