The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a bright wide-angle manual focus lens for full-frame cameras, or a bright standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available for Canon, Nikon and Sony E and A mounts, as well as Micro Four Thirds (MFT).
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for the professional needs of cinema and filmmaking. The VDSLR version is equipped with a ring for follow focus systems and a de-clicked aperture, which allow the user to smoothly and silently adjust the focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.
The Samyang is calibrated in T-values rather than F-values, which is standard for cinema camera lenses. The F-value expresses the brightness of the lens assuming that the lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T-value expresses the actual light transmission, which is more precise and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.
Producing superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, equal to or greater than lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional-quality lens at an affordable price.
Suited to full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications; the lens is a bright wide-angle perfect for landscape, reportage and general photography, including low-light photography. When mounted on a camera with an APS-C sensor, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography.
At wide apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens offers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), which is perfect for portrait-type applications or for photography where ultra-smooth, blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in photography and filmmaking. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh offered by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although the character of bokeh is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, for its bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens includes twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high-refractive-index elements, which help to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering full-frame. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps reduce lateral chromatic aberration, while UMC multi-layer coatings provide high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating optical elements to preserve high image quality at minimum focus distance.
The focus ring features gears compatible with professional geared follow focus systems available in the film industry, as well as a de-clicked aperture ring. These modifications allow smooth and precise control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.
Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for stills photography as well as video purposes. There is a growing number of users who use DSLRs to shoot and produce high-definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pull) and aperture during shooting.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC was designed with great attention to the smallest details, both for the optics and the build, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear lens caps, a petal-shaped lens hood (which is reversible for transport) and a soft lens pouch. Filter size 77mm
