The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR is a bright wide-angle prime lens with manual focus for full-frame cameras, or a bright standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available in Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts. This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for professional cinematography. The VDSLR version features a geared ring system for follow focus and a de-clicked aperture, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems. The Samyang is rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops, which is the standard for cinema camera lenses. The F-stop number expresses the brightness of the lens assuming the lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses. The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version. Offering superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, equal to or exceeding that of lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional-class lens at an affordable price. Suited to both full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications; the lens is a perfect bright/fast wide-angle lens for landscape, journalism and general photography, including low-light photography. Mounted on a camera equipped with an APS-C sensor, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography. At wide apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens delivers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), perfect for portrait-type applications or photography where ultra-blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in photography and cinematography. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh delivered by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although the character of bokeh is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm lens among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of bokeh character. The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which help to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering the full-frame format. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps to reduce lateral chromatic aberration; UMC multi-layer coatings ensure high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating lens elements to preserve high image quality at minimum focus distance. The focus ring features geared rings compatible with professional gear-driven follow focus systems available in the film industry, as well as a geared and de-clicked aperture ring. These modifications allow smooth and precise control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc. Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for still photography as well as for video purposes. There is a growing number of users using DSLRs to film and produce high-definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (rack focus) and aperture during shooting. The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC was designed with great attention to the finest details, both in terms of optics and build quality, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category. Supplied with front and rear caps, a petal-shaped lens hood (which is reversible for transport) and a soft lens pouch. Filter diameter 77mm technical specifications
