The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a fast, large aperture, manual focus prime lens for full-frame cameras, or a fast standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available in Canon, Nikon and Sony E and A mounts, as well as Micro Four Thirds (MFT)
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version was developed primarily for professional filmmaking. The VDSLR version features a de-clicked focus ring and aperture, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.
The Samyang is rated in T-stops rather than F-stops, which is customary for cinema camera lenses. The F number expresses the speed of the lens assuming that the lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.
Producing superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, equalling or surpassing lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional quality lens at an affordable price.
Suited to both full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications; the lens is a perfect fast/bright wide-angle for landscape, photojournalism and general photography, including low-light photography. Mounted on an APS-C sensor camera, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography.
At large apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens delivers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), perfect for portrait-type applications or photography where ultra-smooth backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in both photography and video. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh delivered by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although the character of bokeh is a personal preference, various independent and user tests rank the Samyang 35mm lens among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which helps to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a full-frame lens. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps to reduce lateral chromatic aberration; UMC multi-layer coatings offer high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating elements to maintain high image quality at the minimum focus distance.
The focus ring features geared rings compatible with professional follow focus systems available in the filmmaking industry, as does the de-clicked and clicked aperture ring. These modifications allow precise and smooth control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This enables ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene by scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.
Samyang's VDSLR versions can be used for both photography and video. There is a growing number of users who use DSLRs for still shooting and high-definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pulling) and aperture during shooting.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC was designed with great attention to detail, both in terms of optics and build quality, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear caps, a petal-type lens hood (reversible for storage) and a soft pouch. Filter diameter 77mm
