The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a fast wide-angle prime lens with manual focus for full-frame cameras, or a fast standard lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available in Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts.
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version has been developed primarily for professional filmmaking. The VDSLR version includes a follow focus gear system and de-clicked aperture, allowing the user to smoothly and silently adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during filming, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.
The Samyang is rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops, which is customary for cinema camera lenses. The F-stop number expresses the speed of the lens assuming the lens transmits 100% of incident light. The T number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.
Producing superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, matching or exceeding lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional-class lens at an affordable price.
Suitable for full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications, the lens is a perfect bright/fast wide-angle for landscape, journalism and general photography, including low-light photography. Mounted on a camera with an APS-C sensor, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography.
At large apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens offers beautiful bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), perfect for portrait-type applications or photography where ultra-blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in both photography and video. Aided by its 8-blade diaphragm design, the smoothness of the bokeh provided by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although bokeh character is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm lens among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of its bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens includes twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which helps reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a full-frame lens. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps reduce lateral chromatic aberration, UMC multi-coatings provide high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating elements allowing high image quality to be maintained with a minimum focusing distance.
The focus ring features toothed rings compatible with professional follow focus systems available in the film industry, as well as a toothed and de-clicked (de-clicked) aperture ring. These modifications allow precise and smooth control of focus and aperture during video recording/filming. This allows ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting from scene to scene with different light source intensities, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.
Samyang VDSLR versions can be used in photography as well as video. There is a growing number of users using digital SLRs for shooting and High Definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pulling) and aperture during shooting.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC has been designed with great attention to detail, both optically and in terms of manufacturing, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear lens caps, petal-type lens hood (reversible for transport) and a soft pouch. Filter size 77mm
