The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR lens is a fast wide-angle manual focus prime lens for full-frame cameras, or a fast standard prime lens when used on APS-C/DX sensors, available for Canon, Nikon, Sony E and A, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mounts
This VDSLR (Video DSLR) version has been developed primarily for professional cinematographic/cinema production. The VDSLR version is equipped with a focus ring compatible with follow focus systems and a de-clicked aperture ring, allowing the user to smoothly and quietly adjust focus and aperture/depth of field during shooting, and to connect to professional follow focus systems.
The Samyang is rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops, which is the standard for cinema camera lenses. The F-stop number expresses lens speed assuming the lens transmits 100% of incident light. The T number expresses actual light transmission, which is more accurate and is the standard for professional cinema lenses.
The Samyang 35mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR version is optically identical to the standard Samyang 35mm f1.4 AS UMC version.
Producing superior resolution and sharpness across the entire image, matching or exceeding lenses three times more expensive, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional quality lens at an affordable price.
Suitable for full-frame and cropped sensors, the 35mm focal length has universal applications, the lens is a bright/fast wide-angle perfect for landscape, journalism and general shooting applications, including low-light photography. Mounted on a camera with an APS-C sensor, it becomes a versatile 50mm prime lens, perfect for general photography, including low-light photography.
At wide apertures, the Samyang 35mm video lens offers beautiful bokeh (the character of blurred areas), perfect for portrait-type applications, or photography where ultra-blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are preferred. This technique helps separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results in photography and cinema. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of bokeh provided by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although bokeh character is a personal preference, various independent and user tests rank the Samyang 35mm lens as one of the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, regarding its bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm T1.5 lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which helps reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering full frame. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps reduce lateral chromatic aberration, UMC multi-layer coatings provide high contrast and accurate colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating optical elements allowing high image quality to be maintained at minimum focusing distance.
The focus ring features notched rings compatible with professional follow focus systems available in the cinema industry, as well as a notched and de-clicked (clickless) aperture ring. These modifications enable smooth and precise control of focus and aperture during video recording/shooting. This allows ultimate manual control of focus and exposure when shooting scene to scene with different intensities of light sources, such as changing exposure values (EV) from indoors to outdoors, or even in-camera fades, etc.
Samyang VDSLR versions can be used for still photography as well as for video purposes. There is a growing number of users who use digital SLRs for shooting and High Definition (HD) video, and manual lenses allow the user to change focus (focus pulling) and aperture during shooting.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC has been designed with great attention to the smallest details, both for optics and manufacturing, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear lens caps, a petal lens hood (reversible for transport) and a soft lens pouch. 77mm filter size
