The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Asph IF MC Fisheye CSII DH is distinguished by its removable lens hood (DH), but is otherwise identical (optically and mechanically) to the version with a fixed lens hood.
It is a high-quality ultra wide-angle fisheye lens designed for digital SLRs equipped with an APS-C sensor (CS).
It is a "full-frame" diagonal fisheye lens for APS-C digital SLRs, meaning the image it produces fills the frame on APS-C cameras. It offers an immense field of view – 180 degrees on sensors with a crop factor of 1.5x, or 167 degrees on sensors with a factor of 1.6x such as Canon EOS APS-C digital SLRs.
On full-frame cameras, it produces a vignetted, almost circular image when the lens hood is removed. This effect is sought after by users wishing to obtain the widest possible image/field of view for panorama software on full-frame cameras, and this is one of the reasons Samyang produced this version with a removable lens hood. The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens is ideal for creating 360° panoramas and virtual tours, including full 360-degree images with appropriate equipment and various third-party panorama software supplied by other vendors.
The optical construction of the lens comprises 10 elements arranged in 7 optical groups. The Samyang 8mm fisheye incorporates a hybrid aspherical lens and state-of-the-art multi-layer anti-reflection coating (MC) to minimise flare and ghosting.
Like all current Samyang lenses, it features manual focus. The 8mm fisheye lens body does not change size thanks to the internal focus (IF) design.
Fisheye lenses are also popular for special effects where distortion and field curvature, exaggerated perspective or extreme depth of field are desired. Groups such as skateboarders embrace Samyang fisheyes for their skateboarding videos and photos, due to their very high quality while remaining an extremely affordable option; alternatives are either very expensive or poor-quality lens adapters offering mediocre quality.
The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens offers some of the best optics in its class and exceptional value for money. A specialist lens, accessible to all photographers.
Samyang 8mm 1:3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye CSII DH lenses are available in Canon EF, M, Sony A, E, Pentax, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Four Thirds, MFT mounts.
