The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Asph IF MC Fisheye CSII DH lens is fitted with a removable lens hood (DH), otherwise it is identical (optically and mechanically) to the version with a non-removable lens hood.
This Nikon AE version of the Samyang 8mm is equipped with electronic circuitry that allows full control of exposure settings accessible from the Nikon body, including i-TTL flash communication and EXIF data with all Nikon digital SLRs. It is a high-quality ultra wide-angle fisheye lens for Nikon digital SLRs equipped with an APS-C (CS) sensor.
It is a "full-frame" diagonal fisheye lens for APS-C digital SLRs, meaning the image it produces fills the frame on APS-C cameras. It produces an immense field of view of 180 degrees.
On full-frame cameras, it produces a vignetted, almost circular image when the lens hood is removed. This effect is sought after by users wishing to obtain the widest possible image/field of view for panoramic software on full-frame cameras, and this is one of the reasons why Samyang produced this version with a removable lens hood. The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens is ideal for creating 360° panoramas and virtual tours, including complete 360-degree images with appropriate equipment and various third-party panoramic software provided by other suppliers.
The optical construction of the lens comprises 10 elements arranged in 7 optical groups. The Samyang 8mm fisheye includes a hybrid aspherical lens and state-of-the-art multi-layer anti-reflective coating (MC) to minimise unwanted reflections and ghosting.
Like all current Samyang lenses, it features manual focus. The 8mm fisheye lens body does not change in size thanks to the internal focus IF design.
Fisheye lenses are also popular for special effects where distortion and field curvature, exaggerated perspective or extreme depth of field are desired. Groups such as skaters adopt Samyang fisheyes for their skateboarding videos and photography, due to their very high quality, whilst being an extremely affordable option; alternatives are very expensive, or are poor-quality lens adapters offering mediocre quality.
The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens offers some of the best optics in its class, and exceptional value for money. A specialised lens, accessible to all photographers.
