The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Asph IF MC Fisheye CSII DH lens features a removable lens hood (DH), but is otherwise identical (optically and mechanically) to the version with a non-removable lens hood.
This is a high-quality ultra wide-angle fisheye lens designed for digital SLRs equipped with an APS-C sensor (CS).
It is a "full-frame" diagonal fisheye lens for APS-C digital SLRs, meaning that the image it produces fills the frame on APS-C cameras. It produces an immense field of view — 180 degrees on 1.5x sensors, or on 1.6x sensors such as Canon EOS APS-C digital SLRs, it produces 167 degrees.
On full-frame cameras, it produces a vignetted, almost circular image when the lens hood is removed. This effect is sought after by users wishing to obtain the largest image/field of view for panoramic software on full-frame cameras, and this is one of the reasons why Samyang produced this version with a removable lens hood. The Samyang 8mm Fish-eye lens is ideal for creating 360° panoramas and virtual tours, including full 360-degree images with appropriate equipment and various third-party panoramic software provided by other suppliers.
The optical construction of the lens comprises 10 elements arranged in 7 optical groups. The Samyang 8mm fisheye incorporates a hybrid aspherical lens element and a state-of-the-art multi-layer anti-reflective coating (MC) to minimise flare and ghosting.
Like all current Samyang lenses, it features manual focus. The 8mm fisheye lens body does not change in size thanks to the internal focus (IF) design.
Fisheye lenses are also popular for special effects where distortion and field curvature, exaggerated perspective or extreme depth of field are desired. Skateboarders, for example, embrace Samyang fisheyes for their videos and photos, due to their very high quality whilst remaining extremely affordable; the alternatives are very expensive, or are poor-quality lens adapters offering mediocre quality.
The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens offers one of the best optics in its class, and exceptional value for money. A specialised lens, accessible to all photographers.
The Samyang 8mm 1:3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye CSII DH is available in Canon EF, M, Sony A, E, Pentax, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Four Thirds, MFT mounts.
