The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Asph IF MC Fisheye CSII DH lens features a removable lens hood (DH), and is otherwise identical (optically and mechanically) to the version with a non-removable lens hood.
This is a high-quality ultra wide-angle fisheye lens designed for digital SLR cameras equipped with an APS-C sensor (CS).
It is a "full-frame" diagonal fisheye lens for APS-C DSLRs, meaning the image produced fills the frame on APS-C cameras. It produces an immense field of view — 180 degrees on sensors with a 1.5x crop factor, or 167 degrees on sensors with a 1.6x factor such as Canon EOS APS-C DSLRs.
On full-frame cameras, it produces a vignетted, almost circular image when the lens hood is removed. This effect is sought by users wishing to obtain the widest possible image/field of view for panoramic software on full-frame cameras, which is one of the reasons Samyang produced this version with a removable lens hood. The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens is ideal for creating panoramas and 360° virtual tours, including complete 360-degree images with appropriate equipment and various third-party panoramic software provided by other suppliers.
The optical construction of the lens comprises 10 elements arranged in 7 optical groups. The Samyang 8mm fisheye incorporates a hybrid aspherical lens and advanced multi-layer anti-reflection coating (MC) to minimise flare and ghosting.
Like all current Samyang lenses, it features manual focus. The 8mm fisheye lens body does not change in size thanks to its internal focus (IF) design.
Fisheye lenses are also popular for special effects where distortion and field curvature, exaggerated perspective or extreme depth of field are desired. Skaters, for example, embrace Samyang fisheyes for their skateboarding videos and photos, owing to their very high quality while remaining extremely affordable; the alternatives are very expensive or are poor-quality lens adapters offering mediocre quality.
The Samyang 8mm fisheye lens offers some of the finest optics in its category and exceptional value for money. A specialist lens, accessible to all photographers.
The Samyang 8mm 1:3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye CSII DH is available in Canon EF, M, Sony A, E, Pentax, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Four Thirds, MFT mounts.
