The Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC AE is a bright wide-angle lens with manual focus, compatible with full-frame cameras as well as APS-C or smaller sensors. This Auto Exposure (AE) version of the Samyang 35mm incorporates electronic circuits that allow full control of exposure settings accessible from the camera. On Nikon bodies, this feature includes i-TTL flash communication and EXIF data with all Nikon digital cameras (full-frame FX format and cropped DX format).
Samyang now offers this capability to Canon EOS cameras, with the AE version equipped for full AE functionality and focus confirmation with Canon SLR bodies.
Offering excellent resolution and sharpness across the entire image, matching or exceeding lenses three times the price, the Samyang 35mm lens is truly a professional-quality lens at an affordable price.
On full-frame Nikon FX and Canon EOS SLRs, the 35mm focal length has universal applications with the fast f1.4 aperture, particularly for photojournalism, portraiture and low-light photography. With its high resolution, it is also popular for landscape photography. When mounted on a Nikon DX sensor camera, or on Canon APS-C sensors, it becomes a versatile fixed focal length lens of approximately 50mm to 55mm.
The large apertures of the Samyang 35mm offer a magnificent bokeh (the character of out-of-focus areas), perfect for portrait-type applications, or photography where ultra-soft and blurred backgrounds or foregrounds are desired. This technique helps to separate the subject from the background, giving very pleasing and professional results, particularly in portrait or photojournalism photography. Aided by its 8-blade aperture design, the smoothness of the bokeh provided by the Samyang 35mm is excellent. Although the character of bokeh is a personal preference, various independent tests and users rank the Samyang 35mm lens among the best lenses, regardless of cost or manufacturer, in terms of bokeh character.
The optical design of the Samyang 35mm f1.4 UMC lens comprises twelve elements arranged in ten groups and includes two high refractive index elements, which help to reduce its weight and dimensions to a moderate level for a lens capable of covering full frame. The inclusion of an aspherical optical element minimises and helps to reduce lateral chromatic aberration, while the UMC multi-layer coatings offer high contrast and faithful colour reproduction. The design incorporates floating elements to preserve high image quality at the minimum focusing distance.
It features a wide and comfortable manual focus ring and is perfectly suited to most photographic applications. Precise focusing for critical situations can be achieved through the use of Live View focusing, available on most recent Nikon camera models.
There is a growing number of users utilising Canon and Nikon SLRs for High Definition (HD) shooting and manual lenses allow users precise control of focus during filming.
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC has been designed with attention to the finest details in both optics and build quality, which places the lens among the best photographic products in its category.
Supplied with front and rear lens caps, a petal-type lens hood (reversible for transport) and a soft pouch. Filter size 77mm
