The Kino Flo FreeStyle 41 LED unleashes your creativity by using a quick-release system to remove the LED panel from the plastic housing. The smaller form factor and lightweight LED panel combined with four padded corners add extra rigging versatility. The LED panel also includes an additional mounting plate so it can still be mounted on a stand. Kino Flo's FreeStyle 41 LEDs include three menu options, one white menu and two colour menus. Those who prefer to work with white light can use the "white menu" which gives the user access to dimming, Kelvin and green/magenta control channels. The Kelvin range goes from 2700 K tungsten to 6500 K daylight.In the colour menu, the Kelvin range goes from 2500 K tungsten to 9900 K daylight and Kino Flo has implemented a fourth channel called Gel. The Gel channel includes Kino Flo presets such as blue and green screen, sodium vapour, mercury vapour and over 100 well-known lighting gels. In addition, there is also a fifth channel called Hue Angle and a sixth channel, Saturation. These two channels behave similarly to a traditional colour wheel, where you have white light in the centre and the hue angle determines the colour over a 360-degree range and Saturation determines the amount of colour applied. The second colour menu offers individual red, green, blue (RGB) control. The RGB menu is a great way to work with applications that have RGB presets or predetermined colour wheels. Kino Flo's new FreeStyle LEDs also feature standard and wireless DMX (Lumen Radio), 24 VDC input and universal 100-240 VAC voltage input (1.25 amps at 120 VAC). SnapBag and SnapGrid Softbox accessories are also available.

FreeStyle LED system
The FreeStyle LED system consists of four elements: the FreeStyle LED fixture, the mounting plate, the FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller and the extension cable. It has been designed this way to allow maximum flexibility in lighting solutions for challenging situations.
FreeStyle 41 LED Fixture
The FreeStyle LED fixture includes integrated barndoors and consists of a removable LED panel and baffle. The baffle is held in place by Velcro fasteners. The LED panel can be removed from the fixture housing by pressing the locking pin and turning the thumb screw. The fixture has a threaded receiver plate to accept a screw-on mount. The LED panel also has a threaded receiver plate to accept a removable screw-on mount and features moulded corners for additional rigging options.
Mounting
One of the design features of the FreeStyle LED fixture is the removable centre mounting rod. When in place, the fixture mounts easily on a lighting stand; when removed, the fixture is flat and can be hand-held or hidden in a space too small to place a fixture on a stand. When the mounting rod is removed, eyelets along the edge of the fixture are designed to allow the fixture to be screwed to a wall or ceiling. The removable FreeStyle LED panel also has its own adapter plate to accept the mounting rod. The LED panel can be hand-held with the KinoGrip mount and also features moulded corners as attachment points for rigging with ropes, for example. The self-contained Gaffer tray (FIX-41T) is a separately sold accessory. The Gaffer tray holds the removable LED panel. The KinoGrip centre mount and LED controller can be attached. The tray allows for a smaller fixture profile without having to fold the plastic barndoors. When the mount and controller are removed, the tray can be screwed to the wall or ceiling using its screw points. The standard mount comes with a KinoGrip mount with Baby receiver (MTP-BG41) that mounts on a baby stand. The ball head allows the fixture to be positioned at a wide range of angles. With the KinoGrip, the lightweight fixture or removable LED panel can be hand-held. There is also a short version and a 3/8" rod mount available as accessories. The yellow wire loops are there to provide attachment points for a safety chain. Mounting options include the MTP-KG41 mount with 3/8" (10 mm) rod; the MTP-BG41S mount with short Baby receiver (16 mm).
MTP-B41F
The Kino offset with Baby receiver, MTP-B41F (sold separately) can be used to centre the weight and balance of the fixture on a stand. It can also be hung under a baby stand for bottom lighting.
MTP-BAL1
A ballast mount (MTP-BAL1) is available as an accessory. The MTP-BAL1 can be used with a Mafer clamp to mount the controller on a stand, for example.
The FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller
The included FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller offers cutting-edge functionality: dial control of variable colour temperature; full dimming; programmable presets; three menu options, one white menu and two colour menus. The "white menu" gives the user access to dimming, Kelvin and green/magenta control channels. The Kelvin range goes from 2700 K to 5500 K. In the first colour menu, the Kelvin range goes from 2500 K tungsten to 9900 K daylight and Kino Flo has implemented a fourth channel called Gel. With built-in DMX and Lumen Radio receivers, FreeStyle LEDs can be controlled via DMX or wireless DMX with DMX auto-termination. The energy-efficient FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller operates on a universal input voltage of 100-240 VAC at only 1.25 A (120 VAC) (FreeStyle 31) or can also operate on 24 VDC using only 6.25 A.
Power supply
AC input
The FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller is mains powered and includes an IEC connection. The controller includes a universal 100-240 VAC input.
DC input
The FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller can also operate on 24 VDC (input range 18-36 VDC) via a 3-pin XLR. Pin polarity is:
- Pin #1 - Ground
- Pin #2 - +18-36 VDC
- Pin #3 - Not used
Block Battery/KF21
The KF21 battery can power 28.8 V applications (20-34 VDC). Runtime for the LED FreeStyle 21/31 is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes at full brightness. When the fixtures are dimmed, the battery will last longer. Charge time is only 1.5 hours compared to approximately 4 hours for a full charge of lithium batteries. Unlike lithium batteries, the Kino Flo/BlockBattery is also suitable for travel without transport restrictions. The Kino Flo/BlockBattery system includes a Mafer mount, BAT-MM1, with 28.8 V output with 3-pin XLR, 3 feet. The battery slides onto the mount and attaches to a Mafer clamp. The 3-pin XLR cable connects to the FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller.
DMX operation
The FreeStyle 151 LED DMX operates on three DMX channels (in White mode) using DMX512 (six DMX channels in Colour mode). The first channel controls dimming; the 2nd channel controls Kelvin colour temperature; the 3rd channel controls hue. In Gels/Colour Hue mode: the 4th channel controls Gel; the 5th channel controls Hue Angle and the 6th channel controls Saturation. In RGB Colour mode, the 4th channel controls Red; the 5th channel controls Green and the 6th channel controls Blue.
Wireless operation
The FreeStyle 151 LED DMX controller includes a built-in Lumen Radio receiver and can be used wirelessly with a Lumen Radio transmitter (sold separately). Wireless is an alternative to using DMX cables.
The FreeStyle extension cable
Up to 15 metres (2 x 7.5 metres) of extension cable can be used between the fixture and controller.
Light control
In addition to the plastic honeycombs, another light control option is a Flozier available in half-stop. The Flozier attaches to the barndoors and can be adjusted in various configurations.
Honeycomb
Light diffusion is controlled using thin-walled honeycombs. The advantage of these honeycombs is minimal light loss. FreeStyle LED fixtures include a 90-degree honeycomb. A 60-degree honeycomb is also available as an accessory. They are lightweight and attach to the fixture with Velcro fasteners.
