Open End frames are made from spring steel with a 3/8" pin and bracket that allows the Scrim to be hung on a C-stand grip head when not in use. The two vertical arms of the frame are slotted at both open ends to hold the piano wire woven through the fabric that forms the fourth side of the frame without creating a shadow. Open ends are used to control or manipulate light falling on certain areas of the set or subject. They can be used to soften or reduce light without creating a visible edge. Coloured piping is used around the frame to identify the fabric. Matthews Open End frames are black powder-coated to minimise unwanted reflections.
