Described as "strange but brilliant", the Venus Optics Laowa 24 mm f/14 Probe Macro lens with ARRI PL mount is a truly unique lens designed for close-up photography. Characterised by its long, narrow barrel, this macro lens offers a maximum magnification of 2:1 with a minimum focus distance of 1.5' and a minimum working distance of 0.8". Even with such a close working distance, the lens measures 1.3' in length, placing you at a comfortable distance for photographing close-up subjects. Furthermore, as a wide-angle lens, a greater depth of field is offered compared to traditional telephoto macro lenses, allowing more background detail with less subject isolation. The optical design includes extra-low dispersion and high refractive index elements, which help to suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations for a high degree of clarity, colour accuracy, and sharpness. Manual focus control allows focusing from 1.5' to infinity, and the front of the lens features integrated LED lighting to assist with focusing at short distances. The narrow 0.2" diameter at the front of the barrel also offers greater opportunities for front lighting of subjects. Additionally, the front of the lens is waterproof and allows working with subjects just below the water surface or in dusty or challenging environments. This "cine-mod" version of the lens has been optimised for video use and features integrated gears on the aperture and focus rings to make aperture and focus adjustments using a follow focus.
