The matte box weighs approximately the same as a standard 4 x 5.65" glass filter, and it accepts Tilta's 95 mm round filters with the included filter adapter. The modular design allows you to configure the matte box according to your needs, shot by shot. The included rigid matte box and removable top flag help reduce flare and protect your image from light spill coming from above. Four included lens adapters allow you to mount the Mirage matte box on lenses with front thread pitches of 67, 72, 77 or 82 mm. The included 15 mm LWS rod clamp can be attached, allowing you to mount the Mirage on rods to relieve weight from your lens or use lenses with rotating front faces. An optional stackable 4 x 5.65" filter holder allows you to mount 4 x 5.65" filters on the matte box. Other modular components, such as a top flag, a dual circular filter holder, a filter protector and a rubber matte box for filming against windows, are available separately.
Variable ND system
The included VND module allows you to precisely adjust the ND effect from 0.3 to 2.7 stops. The module has built-in stops between ND 0.3 and 2.7 to reduce the risk of the dreaded X shadow appearing. The variable ND has no colour drift for natural colours, and it has a wider axis between the filter elements. Tilta recommends, to avoid vignetting, using ND 0.3 to 2.1 for wide-angle lenses and using ND 2.1 to 2.7 for focal lengths beyond 35 mm.
Wireless motor system
The wireless micro-motor can remotely adjust the VND unit, allowing you to adjust the ND intensity when your camera is mounted on a gimbal or drone, or when you need smooth adjustment without disturbing the camera during a take. The standard wireless range is approximately 100 metres, and it can extend to over one kilometre using an optional wireless signal amplifier, which is ideal for aerial photography. The VND motor can be controlled with the new included wireless remote control or Tilta's Nucleus series wireless focus systems. The wireless remote control mounts via NATO rail and can control Nucleus M and Nano motors, as well as the Tilta Mirage wireless motor. Use the included Nucleus Nano motor mounting bracket to attach the Nucleus Nano motor directly to the VND module.

The matte box body has been designed to facilitate air circulation with integrated vents that can reduce wind resistance and improve stability when shooting fast-moving subjects, such as in a car or on a drone.
Modular design
The modular design allows you to configure your matte box in different ways: from a minimalist configuration using only the 95 mm filter holder with the lens clamp, to adding a stackable 4 x 5.65" holder, the included matte box, the included top flag, or replacing the matte box with an optional rubber matte box. Additionally, you can add the optional 15 mm LWS rod mount to attach the matte box to rods to handle heavier filter loads, such as the optional VND (variable neutral density) system.

Tilta's 95 mm circular (round) filter system offers coverage for lenses with a barrel outer diameter up to 95 mm, and it offers significant weight reduction compared to traditional filters, as circular filters weigh approximately 1/4 the weight of traditional 4 x 5.65" glass filters.

An optional stackable 4 x 5.65" filter holder can be added between the filter clamp and the matte box, allowing you to easily add one or two 4 x 5.65" filters to the matte box.
