Sigma FP hybrid digital camera with L-mount
The Sigma fp hybrid digital camera offers high-end features for photography and video in an extremely compact body weighing less than 500 grams. Equipped with a 24.6 MP full-frame BSI Bayer CMOS sensor, 14-bit colour depth, electronic image stabilisation and Leica's L-mount, the fp and its fully electronic shutter offer a maximum resolution for raw and JPEG files of 6000 x 4000 and a shooting rate of 18 fps, while its focusing system uses contrast detection and a 49-point selection mode for AF distance measurement, as well as face detection, eye detection and focus peaking. A base sensitivity of 100-25600 ISO can be extended to 6-102400 ISO, and its video recording capabilities allow UHD 4K recording up to 30p, while Full HD recording can be captured up to 120p. For raw video data, external 12-bit CinemaDNG recording is supported. To help users fine-tune their video content, Sigma's "Teal and Orange" mode draws inspiration from Hollywood colour grading techniques and creates a high contrast between orange tones, present in human skin tones, and teals (cyan blue), which are their complementary colours. To allow users to easily switch between photo and video mode, a switch is present on the top of the camera. Compose and preview your shots with a 3.15" 2.1 million-dot touchscreen LCD, and media is recorded internally on an SDXC UHS-II card slot. Thanks to efficient heat dissipation and 42-point dust and splash resistance, the fp will perform well during long hours of use in a wide variety of environments. If you need to connect to external devices, there is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port and a micro-HDMI port. Robust and lightweight aluminium body A die-cast body coated with aluminium on the front and back ensures robustness and heat dissipation while maintaining a light weight. Large heat sink Designed and inspired by those used on professional cinema cameras, a large heat sink is mounted between the LCD screen and the camera body. Combined with a heat-dissipating coating applied to the external surface, the Sigma fp achieves very efficient heat dissipation. It helps prevent overheating at high temperatures or during prolonged use. Dust and splash-resistant structure The Sigma fp is protected by 42-point dust and splash resistance on the body. When combined with a dust and splash-resistant lens, the Sigma fp is capable of shooting in rain, sandstorms and other challenging conditions. Same threads for strap attachments and tripod The Sigma fp is equipped with 1/4"-20 threads for attaching the strap on each side of the body and for a tripod. This offers greater freedom in using the camera, from mounting on a tripod in portrait orientation with the attachment removed, to attaching a strap for use in portrait orientation after screwing the attachment into the base socket. Permanent electronic shutter Shutter shock, noise and lag: these are the drawbacks of mechanical shutters. The Sigma fp is designed to minimise these elements in pursuit of a system adaptable to various shooting scenarios. Shooting that requires precision where even the slightest movement must be eliminated; shooting without spoiling the atmosphere of the scene; and shooting with good responsiveness, without missing your shot. These types of shooting will open up unique horizons in video creation. Furthermore, the absence of a mechanical shutter makes the Sigma fp's structure simpler, which improves its reliability as a camera. "Teal and Orange" colour mode Colour grading is a process of modifying the colour of a video and is an important step in filmmaking that will change the "mood" of a film or other types of works. A colour grading style widely used in Hollywood films inspired a new colour mode introduced in the Sigma fp, called "Teal and Orange". This colour mode consists of creating a high contrast between orange tones, present in human skin tones, and teals (cyan blue), which are their complementary colours, for highly vibrant and deeply dramatic visuals. It can be used in Photo and Cine modes. Fill Light A feature previously available only in Sigma Photo Pro, Sigma's proprietary image development software, Fill Light has now been integrated into the Sigma fp body. Using Fill Light allows you to adjust the brightness of an image by adding extra light energy to shadow areas without changing the exposure of highlight areas. This allows better control to produce an image with plenty of detail, even in areas that are difficult to control using exposure adjustment settings. The adjustment range, which was previously ±2.0, has been extended to ±5.0, enabling even finer brightness adjustment. Tone control and colour mode The tone control menu now features a manual adjustment option in addition to the two automatic options available in previous models (Strong/Soft), allowing users to adjust the tone curve themselves. The Sigma fp also features an "effect" slider in its colour mode menu. It can be used to adjust the intensity of an effect to be applied across 11 levels, from -5 to 5, enabling fine-tuning of the colour mode. Additionally, the "TONE" and "COLOR" buttons provide quick access to the tone control and colour mode menus. With these enhanced functions and a variety of operating elements, the Sigma fp makes it simple and easy to create an in-camera image with plenty of detail, whether in photography or video. HDR shooting HDR shooting takes advantage of an electronic shutter to capture multiple photos at different exposures (3 images for still photography and 2 images for video) at once, which can then be merged into a single photo or video with a greater dynamic range that could not have been achieved during normal shooting. Cinemagraph The Sigma fp features a function to create "Cinemagraphs", which are animated GIFs that are a hybrid between still photography and video. With this function, the Sigma fp is capable of creating unique images, where parts of a still image continue to move, directly in-camera. AF with face/eye detection The AF with face/eye detection function allows the Sigma fp to automatically focus on the eyes of a human subject. It can focus on the subject's eyes instantly and precisely, even when shooting portraits with a large-aperture lens with shallow depth of field. Focus peaking The focus peaking function highlights the edges of parts of a scene that are in focus in a particular colour. It is designed to assist with manual focusing. L-mount The L-mount is a mount optimised for mirrorless cameras, characterised by a short flange focal distance, large diameter and improved durability. As an L-mount camera, the Sigma fp can be used with various L-mount lenses offered by Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. Support for raw video data recording In addition to professional cinema cameras, the Sigma fp supports external recording in 12-bit CinemaDNG format. With recording up to 4K UHD at 24 fps, it produces video data that can be used even in filmmaking. It also supports All-I (All-Intra) recording, which helps maintain high image quality while reducing file sizes, enabling lightweight data available for recording and editing. Director's Viewfinder The Sigma fp features a "Director's Viewfinder" function that allows the user to simulate different angles of view and the look of an image on cinema cameras. It supports cameras from major manufacturers commonly used in filmmaking. It supports not only large-format cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA LF and the RED MONSTRO 8K, but also cinema cameras and anamorphic lenses. Supported cameras include ARRI's ARRICAM/ARRIFLEX, ALEXA LF/ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA SXT, ALEXA Mini, AMIRA, ALEXA 65 and ALEXA XT; Sony's VENICE; and RED's MONSTRO 8K, HELIUM 8K, DRAGON 6K, EPIC MX 5K and GEMINI 5K. Functions comparable to professional cinema cameras The Sigma fp's Cine mode offers various special functions comparable to those of professional cinema cameras. From shutter angle display and waveform display for exposure and colour information, to zebra pattern, it features functions and screen displays that can be used in the same way as with conventional cinema equipment. User interface optimised for different shooting modes Preserving the distinctive "feel" of Sigma cameras, including dials and QS (Quick Set) buttons, the Sigma fp features operating systems and displays specially designed for Photo and Cine modes. With a simple flick of a dedicated switch, it can switch between modes. This provides a shooting experience that goes beyond the limitations of traditional cameras designed for photos or videos.
