Using a newly developed sensor also present in the EOS R6 Mark II, the R8 features a 24.2 MP CMOS sensor paired with a DIGIC X processor. Together, this combination offers excellent performance in photography, impressive 4K 60p 10-bit video and fast autofocus.
24.2 MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processing
Pairing a powerful 24.2 MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X image processor, the R8 produces high-resolution images with rich and accurate colours. Designed to perform in various lighting conditions, this camera offers a flexible ISO range of 100 to 102400 expandable to ISO 204800 for working in challenging lighting conditions. Using the full width of the sensor, 6K oversampled UHD 4K 60p video recording is supported, as is Full HD 1080 180p for slow-motion playback. The R8 offers 4:2:2 10-bit capture and up to 2 hours of video recording is now available at 29.97 fps, allowing you to advance your project. Capable of handling high-speed bursts, the DIGIC X image processor also supports continuous shooting up to 40 fps and offers pre-capture support, which allows the camera to begin recording images 0.5 seconds before pressing the shutter release.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
Featuring 1053 automatic AF points covering the entire sensor area, the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system offers extremely fast and precise focusing performance. This phase-detection focusing system provides enhanced subject detection and tracking, with the ability to intelligently recognise people, animals and vehicles whilst automatically locking onto these subjects and maintaining sharp focus throughout burst shooting and video capture. Additionally, the low-light limit of this autofocus system can focus down to an impressive -6.5 EV for precise focusing in dark conditions.
HDR PQ and Canon Log 3
Whilst the EOS R8 camera can record impressive videos straight out of the camera, content creators looking to take a new step in their imaging journey have a choice of two powerful video recording options in HDR PQ or Canon Log 3 video recording. With HDR PQ recording, a 10-bit colour file is recorded that does not require additional editing. This 10-bit HDR file is compatible with HDR displays such as televisions, monitors and smartphones, which display your video with even more colour accuracy and dynamic range than standard displays. For creators who enjoy editing their video files, Canon Log 3 is also available, creating a 10-bit log file that allows powerful highlight and shadow recovery as well as creative colour grading capability.
Vertical video mode and aspect ratio markers
Video rotation information can be set during or after video recording, allowing videos to be played back in vertical composition when viewing on a smartphone. The aspect ratio marker function displays visual markers for different aspect ratios that may be desired for publishing the same file to various social networking sites. Live streaming
