The Mackie Control Universal Pro by Mackie is a USB/MIDI controller with 9 faders (8 channels + master) that offers mixing, editing, automation and navigation functions for any compatible digital audio workstation. The use of a proprietary communication protocol allows the controller to "communicate" with various software applications without additional configuration.


The unit communicates with the computer via USB and provides connectors for up to three external MIDI devices. For some users, this functionality could allow them to remove any external MIDI interface from their systems.


Each of the 8 channel strips includes a 100 mm Alps touch-sensitive motorised fader, as well as mute, solo and record arm buttons. Also included are a signal LED, a channel select button and a V-Pot that can be used to control panning, send levels, EQ, dynamics and other DSP plug-in modules. The control surface also contains a complete automation assignment section, editing buttons, Undo, Redo and Save buttons, as well as a Shift modifier that offers dual functionality for specific commands.


Navigation control is provided by a tape transport-style transport with a Jog/Shuttle wheel, In/Out loop points and quick-jump buttons in the timeline. The unit works seamlessly with all major music software, and DAW-specific Lexan overlays that fit directly onto the main section can be used to "customise" the control surface.
