The Sonnet Echo Express III-R Thunderbolt 2 expansion chassis for PCIe cards mounts in a 2U rack space. It measures 40.6 cm deep, making it perfect for use in a wide range of mobile racks, carts, rack enclosures, and server rooms. The expansion chassis even saves space for other equipment. Echo Express III allows you to connect 3 compatible full-size professional cards for video capture, audio interfacing, and other specialised cards to your iMac, Mac mini, new Mac Pro, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro equipped with a Thunderbolt 2 port. Featuring 20 Gbit/s Thunderbolt 2 technology, this Echo chassis ensures optimal performance for the most demanding PCIe cards with any compatible computer. It integrates a 300 W universal power supply and includes a 75 W auxiliary power connector for cards requiring additional power. Furthermore, the Echo Express III is environmentally friendly; it automatically shuts down when the connected computer turns off or goes to sleep. The use of larger, slower-spinning fans in the Echo Express III enables maximum noise reduction. Two Thunderbolt 2 ports support daisy-chaining of up to six devices on a single port of your computer.

The original 10 Gbit/s Thunderbolt interface offered revolutionary bandwidth for external expansion, more than sufficient to support the maximum performance of most PCIe cards. However, some high-bandwidth cards such as RED Rocket, 16 Gb Fibre Channel, multi-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet cards, or multiple bandwidth-hungry cards require more than 10 Gbit/s. Thunderbolt 2 overcomes this barrier by providing superior bandwidth of up to 20 Gbit/s for these demanding applications.

The Sonnet Echo Express III-R enables the use of full-size professional PCIe cards for video capture, audio interfacing, SAS & SATA HBA, 8 GB Fibre Channel, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and RAID controller with your Mac equipped with a Thunderbolt 2 port. Featuring 20 Gbit/s Thunderbolt 2 technology, this Echo chassis ensures optimal performance for the most demanding PCIe cards with any compatible computer.
Intelligent Design
The robust steel enclosure of the Echo Express III-R not only ensures secure mounting of the internal assembly, but also allows maximum airflow for cooling, regardless of its position in the rack. It also saves space for other equipment. By using the optional Echo Express III-R mobile rack kit, you can install two 5.25" mobile rack devices in the III-R enclosure. The enclosure includes an internal 300 W universal power supply with a 75 W auxiliary power connector and a power harness cable to provide sufficient power to cards with high power requirements. Two large, remarkably quiet, temperature-controlled variable-speed fans ensure better airflow management, guaranteeing that cards and chassis components operating at high temperatures remain reliable and cool without having to install an additional fan in any of the three slots.
RED Rocket Support
A RED Rocket card normally occupies two PCIe slots — one for the card itself and another for the BNC connector bracket (for HD-SDI output). However, the Echo Express III-R is designed to operate the card in a single slot without sacrificing any connections. The chassis includes specially designed mounting holes to install two BNC connectors, allowing you to install the RED Rocket card in one slot and its BNC connectors in the Echo chassis mounting holes, while leaving the two remaining slots open.
