Tiffen 72mm UltraPol Circular Polarising Filter
 
The Tiffen 72mm UltraPol Circular Polarising Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering light that has become polarised due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. Sunlight naturally becomes partially polarised as it reflects off the electrons of air molecules, causing light to scatter in the form of haze. A polarising filter organises and filters this directionally polarised light perpendicular to the reflected light, allowing absorption of much of this light. This results in a notable reduction of reflections and glare on non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polariser differs from a linear polariser only by the addition of a quarter-wave plate in addition to the linear polarising filter. The addition of this quarter-wave plate serves to circularly polarise the linearly polarised light for use with autofocus and auto-exposure functions. Due to the way light is decomposed and filtered with a linear polariser, autofocus and exposure accuracy become distorted during use. When light becomes circularly polarised, it allows the use of these functions.
This filter is uncoated, has an average light transmission of approximately 40% and is designed to provide a 15 to 20% superior polarising effect compared to other Tiffen filters that only provide a linear or circular polarising effect and are not UltraPol filters.
The Tiffen 72mm UltraPol Circular Polarising Filter is made from Water White glass for increased clarity as well as colour fidelity and features an aluminium alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarising effect.
