The Tiffen 58mm NATural IRND 2.1 filter is an ND filter with a 128x filter factor that offers a 7-stop exposure reduction. Its 2.1 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing down your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and more easily convey motion. Neutral density filters are designed not to affect image colouring and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
The design of this filter has been optimised for use with digital sensors and to promote near-uniform attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to the increased sensitivity of image sensors to infrared light compared to traditional films, colour casts may appear when photographing darker subjects requiring longer exposure times.
This uncoated filter is made from water white glass for increased clarity and features an aluminium alloy mount for durability whilst remaining lightweight. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that laminates the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and polishes it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
