The Tiffen 4.5" Round Neutral Density 1.8 Filter has several uses and offers the ability to achieve results otherwise impossible.
It allows the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. An ND filter appears grey and reduces the amount of light reaching a digital camera's sensor or the film plane of a traditional camera.
A neutral density filter is used to create certain unusual special effects such as capturing the “blur” of water cascading from a waterfall or the swirling effect of traffic in the city.
Because it allows the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would not normally be possible to capture without the filter. And, as it can also help control your depth of field, it allows you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, its value lies in helping to avoid bright and washed-out images taken in bright light.
A 1.8 (6 stops) neutral density filter requires one additional stop of compensation compared to the 1.5 version. If your subject is moving through the scene, it is quite possible that it may not even appear because your shutter speed will be so slow that the recording medium might not have time to capture its passage.
Water White glass is characterised by high transmission quality. Generally, it transmits 98 to 99% of light. It also has anti-glare and anti-reflection qualities that make it useful in a wide range of applications, including the film industry, shop windows and art displays. The glass is virtually flawless and is increasingly present in digital equipment.
Neutral density filters have four main uses
-Allow the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record motion of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
-Decrease depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
-Decrease the effective ISO of high-speed films (above ISO 400) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
-Allow cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects like snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
Superior Quality
-The biggest Hollywood film studios trust Tiffen filters for their multi-million dollar productions. Superior quality and design make Tiffen the preferred choice of filmmakers, professional photographers and even NASA
-Tiffen has also received an Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for engineering excellence
