The Tiffen 4 x 4" Fog 1/4 filter simulates the effects of natural fog or mist by creating a soft glow around bright areas and reducing the overall contrast of the scene. There may also be a softening effect due to the way light interacts with the subject. The 1/4 density provides a greater fog effect than 1/8, but less than 1/2, and requires no exposure compensation.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6 mm.
