The Tiffen Low Contrast 4 x 4" 1/2 Filter works to reduce contrast across the entire image by creating a small amount of controlled glare near highlight areas. This allows more detail in shadow regions, without affecting highlight values, to produce an apparent lower contrast. This filter is ideal for use in mid-day and other high-contrast lighting situations where it is difficult to control both overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows. The 1/2 density provides less contrast adjustment than the density 1 filter, but more than the density 1/4 filter.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm.
