The Tiffen Low Contrast 4 x 4" Grade 4 filter reduces contrast across the entire image by creating a small amount of controlled flare near highlight areas. This allows for more detail in shadow areas whilst preserving highlight values, resulting in lower apparent contrast. This filter is ideal for use in bright midday conditions and other high-contrast lighting situations where it's difficult to control both overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows. Grade 4 density offers less contrast adjustment than Grade 5 density, but more than Grade 3 filter.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that laminates the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinds it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6 mm.
