These filters reduce the amount of light passing through the camera lens without altering the colour of the scene. They are particularly useful in bright light conditions to avoid overexposure. Neutral density filters also allow correct exposure with a larger lens aperture to reduce depth of field and highlight a main subject by making the foreground and/or background blurred.
