The Tiffen Ultra Contrast 1 4 x 4" filter helps to open up your shadows by using the ambient light surrounding the image area as well as the light in the image itself. It reduces contrast uniformly throughout, with little or no loss of sharpness in the scene, even where there are different degrees of brightness.nnShadow areas will reveal more detail but without any glare or halation from direct light sources or bright reflections. The Ultra Contrast works similarly to a Tiffen Low Contrast filter, the difference being that it reduces contrast across the entire image whereas a Low Contrast filter will only open up the shadows.nnThe Ultra Contrast #1 filter is the first full level available for this filter. More ambient light is used to open up your shadows, but you still won't see any glare or halation in the highlights.
