The Tiffen Ultra Contrast 1/4 4 x 4" filter helps open up your shadows using the ambient light surrounding the image area as well as the light within the image itself. It reduces contrast uniformly, with little or no loss of sharpness in the scene, even when there are varying degrees of brightness.nnShadow areas will reveal more detail but without any flare or halation from direct light sources or bright highlights. The Ultra Contrast works similarly to a Tiffen Low Contrast filter, the difference being that it reduces contrast across the entire image whereas a Low Contrast filter will only open up the shadows.nnThe Ultra Contrast 1/4 filter is the next available grade with even more detail revealed in the shadows and uniformly reduced contrast throughout the scene. Sharpness is not affected and no flare or halation is produced.nnTiffen's ColorCore glass is produced using a process that permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass that are polished to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.nnFeatures:nn- Bright lights or sunlight create problems when the ratio between highlight and shadow areas exceeds the film's latitude; if you expose for the highlights, the shadows appear without detail; if you expose for the shadows, the result is washed out and overexposedn- Contrast reduction is achieved by lightening shadows without overexposing or darkening, or by darkening highlights without further darkening the shadowsn- Even when photographing directly towards the sun, it produces no flare or halationn- Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to glass that is simply tinted and subject to variations during the tinting processnnSpecifications:nn- Type: Ultra Contrastn- Size: 4 x 4" (100 x 100 mm, 4 mm thick)n- Grade: 1/4n- Effect: Reduces contrast uniformly throughout the scenen- Application: When the ratio between highlights and shadows exceeds the film's latitude.
