The Tiffen Warm Soft/FX 1/2 4 x 4" filter diffuses harsh light entering the lens and produces a glowing effect. Although the resulting image appears softer and more ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by distributing the light more evenly, a soft halo is created rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. Density 1/2 offers less softening than 1.

This filter also combines the diffusion effect with an 812 warming filter to bring overall warmth to the image and enhance skin tones. This warming effect also helps to reduce sensitivity to blue and soften overly cool tones in the scene.

Tiffen filters are manufactured with ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6 mm.
