The Tiffen Black Satin 1 4 x 4" filter can be applied to intentionally reduce the appearance of imperfections and wrinkles.

This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject whilst softening highlights, reducing contrast and giving textures a smoother appearance.

Additionally, a halo effect around highlights is created, which can further enhance the appearance of a subject or produce a desired effect whilst maintaining overall sharpness.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/4, 1/2, 2 and 3 are also available, where the effect of this type of filter becomes approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.

This filter is constructed from water-white glass for increased clarity as well as colour fidelity.

It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
